History
Salzgitter Maschinenbau AG was started in the year 1919. The company was first established by an engineer Anton Raky. Raky was a pioneer in oil drilling and modern drilling technology. The initial company name was Anton Raky, Tiefbohrungen in Salzgitter.
During the year 1937, the cornerstone for SMAG was laid when the manufacturing facility was acquired by the Salzgitter Group for making drilling machines. In the year 1986, the company bought the grab product division from Peiner AG. Soon after, Peiner was developed into a global brand name in the succeeding years. Currently, SMAG is the market leader in the globe, using grabs for agriculture, waste disposal, and global cargo handling applications.
