Forklifts are used to carry and move loads that are heavy, usually within warehouses and construction sites. They are usually found in other manufacturing and material handling industries. There are different types of forklifts used for various kinds of applications.

The way forklifts are powered is the biggest difference between them. Several are electric powered and some use internal combustion motors. Kinds of forklifts are manual drive, fork truck and motorized drive. Fork trucks are motorized and have cabs and backup alarms. Motorized drive forklifts normally have a protected seat for the operator. Manual drive forklifts are powered manually.

Some forklifts are counterbalanced in order to prevent tipping. Other safety factors include turntables or handrails. Specialty forklifts are available for specific applications.
