The forklift is a material handling device used to lift and move loads from one location to another. Each and every forklift part has a specific function. Various parts can be utilized to transport the load either vertically or horizontally.
Mast
The components utilized to lift and lower the load is referred to as the forklift mast. There are various kinds of masts utilized for lifting loads to various heights: simplex, duplex, triplex and quad.
Power Supply
Forklifts have four different ways of being powered: electric, gas, diesel and propane. The battery is located inside the cab underneath the seat. The propane tank is on the rear of the truck. The fuel tank on gas and diesel forklifts is underneath the rear of the truck.
Cab
Located in the center of the truck is the forklift cab. This is where the operator sits and accesses all the controls and informational gauges. The gas pedal, steering wheel, tilting controls, brake and lifting controls are all located in the cab.
Frame
Carrying all the largest forklift components is the truck frame. This consists of the counterweights located at the rear that prevents the truck from tipping over when loaded. The frame includes the overhead guard that protects the operator. The undercarriage holds the driveshaft, axles and wheels.
